We have chosen the site for Long Lands Common as it fulfilled a number of criteria that we were interested in, so as to provide the maximum benefit for future users of the Common:
- Situated in an easily accessible position for the people of Harrogate and Knaresborough residents, especially those who already visit the Nidd Gorge area.
- Situated on Greenbelt land, meaning it is protected from encroaching developments and will retain a greenfields link to the Nidd Gorge forest.
- Has a good degree of bio-diversity already, but also presents opportunity for development to enhance and restore bio-diversity.
- Aligns with the objectives of the Northern Forests Project of planting 50 million trees in the North of England.
